Human Centric Lighting is an approach to lighting design that takes into account the biological and psychological needs of people. In other words, an approach that aims to adapt it to the natural human biological clock. All of nature functions around a specific rhythm, the changing seasons, sunrises and sunsets determine the flowering, fruiting or vegetation of plants and the development of all living beings. It is no different with humans, we wake up and fall asleep according to the rotational movement of our planet, which harmonises our functioning in relation to the day.
HOW IT WORKS
The development of the lighting industry has meant that light has undergone an evolution in recent times, changing the understanding of HCL from a technology to a philosophy and a way of improving the quality of life.
Why is the circadian rhythm important?
Our activity, well-being or efficiency is largely dependent on our natural circadian rhythm. Disturbances in the rhythm have a negative impact on our functioning and efficiency at work. Technological developments make it possible to adapt lighting to the natural needs resulting from the circadian rhythm, which directly influences our natural functioning and sustainability.
Benefits of Human Centric Lighting
Light is the most important factor shaping the circadian rhythm – the right intensity, the composition of the light spectrum and the exposure time have a real impact on our wellbeing and body condition, and thus our productivity at work.
The colour temperature of the sun varies depending on the time of day and the weather. It also affects the spectrum of light that reaches the human retina. The colour temperature range in the implemented LUG luminaires – 2700-6500K – allows the sun’s temperature range to be reproduced.
Sleep Cycle Control
Properly adjusting the colour temperature of lighting helps regulate melatonin, improving sleep quality and overall health.
Improving Mood and Productivity
Variable colour temperature solutions help balance hormone levels, resulting in improved mood and productivity in the workplace and daily life.
Reducing Eye Fatigue
Optimised illumination reduces eye strain, which is key to comfort at work and in daily activities.
Adaptation to Changing Conditions
Programmable motion or twilight sensors allow lighting to be adapted to changing weather conditions, seasons or individual user preferences.
